Our Services

Speech

The ability to produce and pronounce speech sounds clearly and accurately. This requires coordinating the vocal cords, articulators (lips, tongue, teeth, palate) and the respiratory system.

Receptive Language

The ability to understand and interpret spoken or written language. Strong receptive language skills are essential for understanding instructions, participating in conversations, and processing information across different environments (e.g., school, work, or social settings).

Expressive Language

The ability to express thoughts, ideas and feelings through spoken language, written words, gestures or other forms of communication. Expressive language is crucial for conveying information, asking questions, providing directions, telling stories, and expressing emotions during social interactions.

Literacy

The ability to read, write and understand written material. It involves the essential skills of decoding written language (reading) and encoding thoughts into written form (writing), both of which are fundamental for learning and meaningful communication.

Fluency

Refers to the smooth uninterrupted flow of speech. Stuttering, the most common fluency disorder, is an interruption in the flow of speaking characterised by specific types of disfluencies, including repetitions of sounds, syllables, and monosyllabic words.

Social Communication

Refers to the skills required to effectively interact with others in social settings. These skills are crucial for building and maintaining relationships, and participating in the community.

Multimodal Communication

The use of alternate means for individuals to communicate. This may involve visual aids, sign language, low-tech communication (e.g., core boards), and high-tech communication devices (e.g., LAMP, Proloquo2go).

Phonological Awareness

The recognition that sounds make up words in spoken language. It involves skills such as rhyming, blending, segmenting and manipulating sounds.
